How does Laser Hair removal work?
The laser energy targets the melanin (colored pigment) of the hair and skin. As the treatment is administered, the laser energy is absorbed by the hair. The energy is converted to heat. The hair sits in a follicle that is nourished by tiny blood vessels. The energy is converted into heat inside of the follicle. The heat causes the destruction of the follicle (the follicle bursts) and the supply of nourishment to the follicle. The hair is singed or burned and is naturally exfoliated over the course of about one to two weeks. Due to the physiology of hair growth, more than one laser hair removal treatment is recommended.
Does Laser Hair removal hurt?
The sensation that is most frequently described is: "It feels like a rubber band snap." The sensations that are felt vary with patients from little to no discomfort to moderate pain. The discomfort usually lasts only during the course of the treatment and subsides within seconds of the application of the laser treatment. Pain toleration varies with each person. We recommend that you schedule an appointment for a consultation including "test spots", if you have concerns about tolerting the discomfort of the treatments. We acknowledge that the treatment may be uncomfortable. It has been our experience that clients appreciate the benefits of the hair removal and they outweight any discomfort felt during the treatment. We offer optional topical anesthetic options that may help to reduce discomfort.
Are there Risks associated with Laser Hair removal?
As with all laser treatments, there is always the risk of burning. With the latest and most up to date technology offered by Aesthetics by VTS, as well as well trained and conscienscious staff, the risk is minimal. All treatments are medically supervised by a medical Doctor who is onsite.
Another significant risk is that the client may develop hyper or hypo pigmentation on the treatment area. The Hyper or Hypo pigmentation is usually transient (lasts only short time and will go away). There is always the risk that it could remain permanently. This risk should especially be considered when receiving hair removal treatments on your face or if you have a history of these skin reactions.
